An exploration of identity, Wabanaki people, and the river that connects them

We believe it is time to restore the name and identity of the Wolastoq River.

This film project will tell the stories of the river that runs through this region and the Wabanaki people whose identities have been tied to it for many years. With it, we hope to build a network of allies who will actively commit to Indigenous reconciliation and join the call to have the Wolastoq be reunited with its original name.

The Gathering Circle

The Wolastoq River Film Project stems from the Gathering Circle - a group of Indigenous people and non-Indigenous allies who are working together to end interpersonal and systemic racism in New Brunswick and to promote the implementation of the TRC Calls to Action in order to create a just and fair province that recognizes the languages, contributions, and treaty rights of Wabanaki people.
